Amaal Mallik On Working With Salman Khan And Shraddha Kapoor

Amaal Mallik is a celebrated Indian music composer, singer, and producer known for his fresh and heartfelt melodies. Born into the illustrious Malik musical family, he inherited a deep passion for music and honed his craft from an early age. Making his Bollywood debut as a composer with Jai Ho (2014), Amaal quickly gained fame for his ability to fuse contemporary sounds with rich, soulful compositions.

His work in films like M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and Kabir Singh has earned him widespread acclaim. Beyond Bollywood, he has ventured into independent music, collaborating with top artists and producing chart-topping singles. With a signature style that balances emotion and innovation, Amaal Mallik continues to shape the soundscape of Indian music. In an exclusive interview with Amaal, he talks about actors who sing for a film.

Amaal Mallik On Actors As Singers

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Amaal Mallik he shares about the actors that sings in movies. He says, “I think jinhone mere liye gaya hai, Shraddha ne bhi ek gaane gaya hai, Salman Khan also sang, I think intent kis cheez se aap kar rahe ho woh important baat hai. Matlab aap jab ek gaane ko gaate hai, established singer ya ek new singer ne bohot accha ya uska leke aap khud ka kar dete hai aur uska release nahi karte toh that I think is wrong.

As a marketing thing, aapko news ki thing banani hai, jaise that was the intent during Hero, so Salman Sir sang it obviously usme auto-tune hai woh khud bhi kehete hai but, usme agar Aarman ka version nahi hota mereko ek poetic justice nahi milti.” (I believe intent matters most when singing a song. Shraddha and even Salman Khan have sung for me, but if a great version by a singer gets replaced and never released just for marketing, that’s unfair. During Hero, Salman Sir sang Main Hoon Hero Tera with auto-tune, which he acknowledges, but I felt poetic justice was served because Armaan’s version was also released.)

Amaal On AI

He continued, “So dono version workout for the film yaani marketing point of view se woh sahi hai agar kisi actor ko karna hai, woh khud aapna indie-pop album bhi daalna chache toh kar sakta hai. Aaj singer ka joh category hai industry me woh badal chuka hai. Aap Instagram pe bhi guitar baja ke singer ban sakte ho, it’s not necessary that woh voice is the right voice for a certain melody or a certain playback voice, woh depend karta hai, you cannot take somelike Anuv Jain and make him sing for Ajay Devgn. You can make him sing an indie show. (Having both versions in a film works for marketing, and actors can release indie-pop albums if they want. Today, anyone can become a singer on Instagram, but not every voice suits playback. Anuv Jain can’t sing for Ajay Devgn—his voice fits indie music.)

Toh actors kis intention se gaa rahe hai woh important hai agar woh gaa rahe hai kisi singer ho hatane me toh woh pointless hai. Singers, singers rahenge hi, chache AI aa jaye.” (What matters is intent; if actors sing to replace singers, it’s pointless. Singers will always have their place, even with AI.)

“Joh emotion se ek singer gaata hai shayad mai bhi na gaa paau, issliye maine 125 gaane banaye hai but maine gaaye sirf 3 hai. So it has always been the tune, agar mujhe laga ki iss gaane me Aarman will be able to do or Arijit bhi nahi toh maybe Vishal Dadlani…. toh gaane se mai chunta hu. As long as they are doing it as a marketing idea or to support themselves in a new way it’s fine.” (I’ve composed 125 songs but sung only three because singers bring unique emotions. I choose voices that fit—Armaan, Arijit, or Vishal. If actors sing for marketing or exploration, it’s fine.)

Like Jacqline is singing it’s working, jaise Shehenaaz Gill is also thoda bohot gaa rahi hai. There are people who can, Shraddha is a terrific singer, Parineeti is a terrific singer so if they don’t completely ruin the song then it’s okay.” (Jacqueline and Shehnaaz are trying it, and Shraddha and Parineeti are great singers. As long as the song isn’t ruined, it’s okay.)
